For the first time in 13 years, Bigfoot and Dan Runte returned to the Oceanfront of Virginia Beach to battle it out for the King of the Beach title given to the best overall finisher of the four show weekend. Runte had to face tough competition from local hero Steve Sims and the Stone Crusher along with 7 other trucks. With the first ever George Carpenter Cup on the line, it was an all out battle over the course of three days and four events that left many trucks battered, but Runte and Bigfoot came out on top over Sims and Stone Crusher in a fierce dogfight. Monster Profile: Lee O’Donnell
Lee O’Donnell is an accomplished off-road racer who is known for being able to drive almost anything with an engine, specializing in short-course off-road racing, and now monster trucks. O’Donnell made his debut in 2001, took a break to go back to off-road racing, then returned as a “super sub” of sorts, winning a big race in Atlanta filling in for Linsey Weenk in Blue Thunder. After several successful fill-in roles, Lee was back to driving monster trucks. He is also known for his colorful personality and open, honest, and humorous interviews. After bouncing around to several teams in the industry to begin his career, Lee has settled into the role of the main driver for the Iron Man truck. Josh Rhodes and Ed Hoormann caught up with Lee in St. Louis, Missouri before the show to get his thoughts on a wide variety of subjects, including the Monster Jam World Finals. We thank Lee and Brenda O’Donnell for their time. [Read More …]
Perrin Motor Sports named Monster Jam Team of the Year!
2012 ADVANCE AUTO PARTS MONSTER JAM TEAM OF THE YEAR
With humble beginnings playing in the mud in Michigan over 25 years ago, we never imagined we would be honored with such an award in Las Vegas. We could not have received this without all the support & encouragement from our sponsors, family & friends from coast to coast. You all made it happen!
Steve Parry “The Journey Blog: Vegas”
Here are my thoughts and analysis from my first full Double Down experience yesterday (minus most of the sunburn)…
Last year was the first time I came out to the show (in a last minute fashion). My plane arrived at 4PM-ish, and we made it to the stadium in time for qualifying. This year I got the best Christmas present a 22 old boy could receive – 2 Monster Jam World Finals Double Down ticket packages for me and my amazing girlfriend. With a couple months in advance, versus 3 weeks in advance, we were able to plan our trip so we could get the whole World Finals experience. The BBQ was delicious, and free drinks included on a scorching hot day were a god-send. If only we got sunscreen too! The track walk was outstanding. It was great to see some of the track crew guys we know and love in the Northeast out here in Vegas doing their thing, but to stand on the track where Monster Jam history is made is a surreal feeling. Its one thing to look at the track from your seat, but it’s a totally different thing standing next to the obstacles, giving you a totally different perspective on the track (which I’ll talk about in a little bit). The whole experience was a pleasure, and one that I won’t soon forget.
